My Story
More Than Dog Training — It's About the Bond
Dogs have always held a special place in my life, but my journey to becoming a dog trainer is deeply personal.
One of the dogs who changed my life was Blue, a Pit Bull I adopted through Michigan Pit Bull Rescue. Blue wasn't simply my dog—he was my companion, my family, and one of my best friends. The years I spent with him taught me something that continues to shape the way I work with dogs today: the strongest results begin with trust, patience, consistency, and a genuine relationship between a dog and the person who loves them.
When I lost Blue on February 4, 2025, I wasn't sure another dog could ever fill that space in my heart. Almost exactly one year later, something remarkable happened. I saw a young Pit Bull at Oakland County Animal Control & Pet Adoption Center. His name was Blue, and there was something about his eyes that immediately reminded me of my boy.
I brought him home that same day.
Blue II became another chapter in a story I never expected to continue. Raising and training him reinforced everything I believe about dogs: they are individuals. They learn differently, respond differently, and deserve to be understood rather than forced into a one-size-fits-all approach.

At Happy Tails K9 Training, I believe lasting results come from patience, consistency, clear communication, and mutual respect. My goal isn't simply to teach dogs commands, but to help owners build strong, trusting relationships with their dogs.

Nearly Two Decades of Dedicated Pet Care
My wife and I are also the proud owners of Happy Tails Pet Sitting Service, LLC, where we've spent nearly 18 years caring for pets and building lasting relationships with their families.
Throughout those years, we've had the privilege of working with countless dogs, each with their own unique personality, temperament, and needs. That experience has given me a deeper understanding of canine behavior and reinforced my belief that every dog deserves patience, compassion, and individualized attention.
Happy Tails K9 Training is a natural extension of that journey, allowing me to take my passion for dogs beyond pet care and help families build stronger, more rewarding relationships with their canine companions.
That philosophy is at the heart of Happy Tails K9 Training.
My goal isn't simply to teach a dog to sit, stay, or walk nicely on a leash. It's to help people understand their dogs, strengthen the bond they share, and build communication that lasts long after a training session ends.
Whether I'm working with a new puppy, helping a family establish better manners, or working through more challenging behaviors, I approach every dog with patience, respect, consistency, and an understanding that there is a story behind every leash.
Because better training isn't just about creating a better-behaved dog. It's about building a stronger relationship between you and your best friend.

My journey with dogs became deeply personal because of my original Blue. I adopted him through Michigan Pit Bull Rescue, and he became far more than a dog — he was my best friend and family.
Blue showed me firsthand the incredible bond that can exist between a person and a dog, and the impact patience, trust, and unconditional love can have on both of their lives.
Blue passed away on February 4, 2025, but the lessons he taught me never left. His memory continues to be part of the heart behind Happy Tails K9 Training and my commitment to helping dogs and their families build that same kind of lifelong bond.
THREE DECADES OF RESCUE
30 Years in Rescue
My experience with dogs didn't begin with becoming a professional trainer. For more than 30 years, I've been involved in animal rescue and have had the opportunity to serve in many different roles along the way.
Those years have allowed me to work with dogs from all kinds of backgrounds — dogs who were frightened, misunderstood, abandoned, surrendered, or simply in need of someone willing to give them another chance. That experience taught me the importance of patience, trust, understanding behavior, and recognizing that every dog is an individual.
Rescue continues to shape the way I train today. I don't just see a behavior that needs to be changed — I look at the whole dog, the family, and the relationship between them.
Thirty years in rescue didn't just teach me about dogs. It taught me to listen to them.
